A forest space inspired by everyday life
Shui Mu Living is in Balik Pulau, Penang, Malaysia. To us, it is more than a place to stay. It is a space to step away from everyday routines and reconnect with life.
Join an activity or simply sit in peace; chat with friends or enjoy time alone; try something new or do nothing at all.
We hope you will feel no need to rush through an itinerary or fill every minute to make your visit worthwhile. Everyone has their own way of living, and we respect those differences.
We believe that life itself is part of our practice.
A mindful life does not require isolation from others or elaborate rituals.
Eating a proper meal, sleeping well, noticing our emotions, observing changes in nature, and learning to be at ease with ourselves may seem simple, but they deserve our attention too.
Through nature, forest stays, sound experiences and time together, Shui Mu Living offers space to reconnect with yourself and everyday life. We do not seek to give everyone the same answers—only a place to feel at ease and explore freely.
Welcome to Shui Mu Living. Here, you can live at your own pace.
Old Timber, New Life, Enduring Forest
Over more than a decade, a hillside house has been gradually restored into the forest living space that is Shui Mu Living today. Timber grain, mountain breezes and shared tables preserve a simple, welcoming way of life.
Within 12 acres of natural forest, six rooms with private bathrooms balance time together with personal space to rest. Gather over home-cooked Hakka meals, slow down with the sounds of singing bowls, and reconnect with nature.

Our Philosophy
Staying connected with nature gives us a chance to slow down and notice the world around us again.
Everyone has different needs and rhythms. We respect each person's choice of how to rest, experience, and live.
Not everything needs to be complicated. Sometimes, a simple life has value in itself.
Discover the world with an open mind—through sound, meditation, nature, and connections with others.

I have always been exploring what it means to live.
As I move through different stages of life, I increasingly feel that we do not need to spend our whole lives chasing external things. Career and money matter. But so do our health, our freedom, and the ability to live in our own way.
Over the years, I have explored different fields, alongside sound, meditation, nature and wellbeing. I enjoy observing people and the world around me. Rather than rushing to find one right answer, I prefer to stay curious, experience things for myself and understand them gradually.
Shui Mu Living is where I bring these experiences and ideas to life. I hope it can be a place without too many rules, where people need not share the same outlook. Come to rest, try something new, or simply enjoy a few days in the forested hills.
When you arrive, let yourself feel at ease. Eat well, sleep well, and live in the present. We can explore everything else along the way.
